Food Security in Rural Communities

Series Type Rural Learning
Subject Agriculture & Food
Subject Community Development

In many rural communities, the food system looks like a broken loop: food is grown in rural areas, but that doesn’t always mean food is accessible or available to rural Texas. To better understand and surmount this challenge, the Baylor Collaborative on Hunger & Poverty pioneers research, tests and evaluates innovative models for ending hunger, and collaborates with leaders to scale those ideas for maximum impact.

TX Rural Funders and the Baylor Collaborative offer an introduction to rural food security in Texas, looking at:

  • National and statewide trends
  • Causes and consequences of food insecurity
  • Best practices in programming and policy innovations
  • Lessons learned for technical assistance to rural areas
