How can a lot of creative thinking and a little bit of telemedicine get healthcare delivered to a rural town? This Rural Healthcare Discussion Series featured a fascinating discussion between three healthcare thought leaders: Danielle Gallo of the Marathon Health Center; Dr. Kara Hartl of Troy Medical; and Blanca Lesmes of TeleScan.

We learned about the innovation and collaboration that makes distance medicine possible. More than just a broadband connection, effective distance medicine requires solving three, interlocking challenges that our panelists discussed:

  • Distributing Medical Knowledge: how do we find, recruit, and retain remote providers?
  • Access to Equipment: how do we procure remote medical technology and train local operators?
  • Gathering Rural Patients: how do we align – and reimagine – what our points of care can look like in rural communities?
