Focus Area This program provides grants to support the assessment, prevention, control, and reduction of wildfire smoke hazards in community buildings. The goal is to reduce indoor exposure to pollutants from wildfire smoke and improve public health outcomes in affected communities. Funding is available for projects that improve wildfire smoke preparedness and protection in buildings that serve the public. Eligible activities include smoke readiness planning, outreach and training, indoor and outdoor air quality monitoring, deployment of portable air cleaners, and the identification and preparation of cleaner air spaces or shelters. Projects may also include building improvements such as upgrading or repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and weatherization to improve indoor air quality. Projects may incorporate research, demonstrations, technical assistance, training, education, and outreach. Applications must focus on assisting public buildings or facilities that serve the broader community.
